Pond at Twilight.
Quiet evening, still water
Weeping willow branches float lazily on the water’s surface
Sun sinking in the west
Clouds play gentle hide and seek with the sun
Frog in the mud, fly on the leaf
Each seeking his dinner before bed
Quick flick of green flashes in the twilight
Fly is gone; happy frog
Heron walks on his stilts through the dark shallows
Looking for movement among the reeds
Small trout hides below between his toes
Hungry heron moves on; trout leaps for joy
Snake slides through the damp grass
Eyes the frog and measures mouth-to-body size
Big snack; little snake
Happy frog; hungry snake
Gentle breeze moves ripples on the water
The sun sinks out of sight; clouds fade into the night
Frog croaks, trout splashes
Hunger in the darkness; seeking dinner
